Experts recommend that organizations invest at least 20% of their budgets in marketing and messaging.

Traditionally, many mission-driven organizations have believed that simply “doing good” would naturally attract funding and followers. But experience has shown that impact alone is not enough. To sustain a vital mission, organizations must also grow their brand, messaging, and communication infrastructure.

This workshop is an introduction to messaging, marketing, and branding designed specifically for organizations working for the common good. You’ll gain practical tools to strengthen your voice, expand your reach, and unlock greater access to resources.

Hari Baumbach

Hari Baumbach is a design strategist and founder of Essencify Design, partnering with nonprofits and social impact organizations to build trust, and communicate for impact across print and web design. With roots in Brazil and 15+ years across brand identity, UI/UX design, and web, Hari’s approach integrates trauma-informed and life-centered design, emphasizing inclusion, consent-based practices, and the ethical responsibilities of technology and communications.

Allegra Mangione

Based in Denver, CO, Allegra is a storyteller, a facilitator, a strategist and a fundraiser whose greatest passion is to help nonprofit organizations develop values-aligned, actionable marketing strategies. In 2020, after a 7-year career working in community-based organizations, Allegra launched Catharsis, a consulting practice focused on marketing strategy for nonprofits.

Within the nonprofit sector, Allegra has worked across four continents in diverse roles in development, communications, evaluation, and strategic planning at organizations including ZIM Consulting, Focus Points Family Resource Center, Tewa, and Etafeni Day Care Center Trust.

When transitioning into consulting for nonprofits, Allegra made a personal commitment to work inline with her values—bold honesty, empathetic kindness, abundance, anti-racism, and transparency are a few—and encourage the nonprofits she works with to do the same.

Some of Catharsis' current and past clients include Access Gallery, Easterseals Colorado, New Mexico Wildlife Center, Denver Children’s Advocacy Center, and Dream Volunteers. Allegra holds a B.A. in Human Services and International Affairs from Northeastern University.

Outside of her work, Allegra pursues climbing, mountaineering, travel, and creative writing.
