Angela K. James

Angela K. James serves as a Senior Organizer and Master Trainer with the Gamaliel Network, bringing over two decades of experience to the forefront of community organizing. Her journey began as a grassroots leader in St. Paul, Minnesota, and has since evolved into a distinguished career leading organizations across Wisconsin, Virginia, and Georgia. Currently, she provides strategic consultancy to Gamaliel affiliates in Michigan, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania.

A specialist in racial equity and leadership development, Angela is the Director of N’tosake, Gamaliel’s premier women’s leadership program, where she designs curriculum to empower women for 21st-century civic engagement. She also directs the Race and Power Institute, a role born from her extensive background with Crossroads Anti-Racism Organizing & Training. Under her guidance, Gamaliel became a pioneer among organizing networks in aggressively confronting structural racism.

An international educator, Angela has conducted trainings across the United States, Kenya, and South Africa. She previously chaired the Gamaliel State Directors table (2007–2015) and continues to serve on the three-member team guiding the network’s Training Department. Originally from Houston, Texas, Angela raised her family between Texas and Minnesota and currently resides in her native Houston.
