This cohort is concerned with the essentials for leaders of churches and church-related organizations. Each presentation will concern an important task of leadership in churches and church-related organizations:

Facilitated by Dr. Edith Guffey 

Dr. Edith Guffey served the United Church of Christ for more than 30 years, first as the Secretary of the denomination, then as an Associate General Minister, always focusing on the internal operations. She was Administrator of the General Synod from 1995-2011. She has served as a Conference Minister, and also held many governing roles across the United Church of Christ and related ministries.

Guffey has always been committed to justice and advocacy, where she has worked on conflict mediation, affordable housing and LGBTQ+ issues, among others. In October, she will become Chair of the Board for National PFLAG, the first and largest organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people, their parents and families, and allies.

Dr. Bracke taught Hebrew Bible and congregational leadership and administration at Eden Seminary for 28 years before retiring in 2012. During his time at Eden, he served as academic dean for 14 years.

His educational background includes degrees from Elmhurst College, Eden Theological Seminary, and Union Presbyterian Seminary.
